Academics
Saif’s academic interest lies in Constitutional Law and he has vehemently defended free speech, democratic rights of the people and other human rights, both in and outside courts, and handled varied litigation involving complex issues of Civil, Public and Constitutional Laws. He is a Visiting Research Scholar at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, University of Oxford [2022] and Visiting Fellow & Guest Scholar at the Amity Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Amity University, India.
Recognised as an expert in Islamic Law in India, his works on the subject have been cited by a Constitution Bench of the Indian Supreme Court and are taught at various law schools.
Saif is co-author of Muslim Law in India and Abroad [Universal, New Delhi, 2012] and Introduction to Muslim Law [2nd ed., Universal-Lexis Nexis, New Delhi, 2018] and co-edits the Delhi High Court’s Bar journal, Quarterly Bar Review.

Literature & Culture
Saif is a well-known Urdu poetry and literature expert, author, commentator, critic, translator and public speaker. His book on Urdu poetry in Mughal Delhi, Beloved Delhi: A Mughal City and Her Greatest Poets [Speaking Tiger, New Delhi, 2018] is widely-recognized as an authoritative work and has been cited in research theses and peer-reviewed articles.
A leading South Asian voice on literature and culture, he is a familiar face on television channels and literature festivals. His work appears regularly in national dailies and on news websites.
Saif is Founder of the South Asian Alliance for Literature, Art & Culture (SAALARC) and advises many prestigious literary and cultural institutions in South Asia and the UK.
